Another idea to consider is just because someone most likely does not need hospitalization for COVID-19 does not mean they won’t need it for other issues. Heart attacks, food illnesses, accidents, births — these issues don’t stop just because a pandemic is happening. Flattening the curve will allow hospitals to be able to handle those issues along with the COVID-19 cases, as shown here for the St. Louis area:
